| Ushers should be at least eighteen years old.
Please be courteous and friendly to all patrons, as we hope to provide a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Please send any dissatisfied patrons to the House Manager.
Arrival time for ushers is an hour and fifteen minutes prior to curtain time. Please arrive on time, and notify the House Manager if you must be late.
Barring any physical restrictions please be willing to rotate positions. This ensures that all ushers are able to cover any position necessary.
Upon arrival, please proceed into the theater to stuff playbills and meet with the House Manager regarding that night’s performance. The usher assigned to coat check and one of the ushers assigned to concessions will remain at their posts from time of arrival, so that the lobby is attended at all times. The coat check and concessions volunteers are not to enter the theater until instructed to do so by the House Manager.
Ushers should not, under any circumstances, move patrons to seats for which they do not have tickets. If a seating issue arrives, please ask the House Manager for assistance.
Patrons may still be seated until the house lights are lowered.
Patrons must be held in the back of the theater or directed to easily accessible open seats at the rear of the theater until an intermission or appropriate pause, so as not to disturb the audience or performers. If this policy changes for a particular show, ushers will be notified upon arrival.
One ticket taker is asked to remain in the lobby, and one usher in the inner lobby to attend to latecomers until the House Manager instructs them to enter the theater.
Under no circumstances should ushers be seated until after the performance is underway and all patrons are settled.
One usher is required to stand at each door for the entirety of the performance. Feel free to trade off during the performance. All other ushers may sit in the very back of the theater, in aisle seats only. Please wait a reasonable amount of time before sitting, as patrons may come in late.
Please remain attentive throughout the performance. Be ready with your flashlight to escort patrons to and from their seats, or help them as necessary throughout the show.
Please be careful to keep flashlights pointed when they are in use. They are very bright and can be distracting to both the audience and performers.
In order to ensure that all patrons are able to fully enjoy the performance, it is very important that ushers are quiet throughout the performance. Voices carry inside the theater, and even whispers can be heard by the audience.
Please remain in your positions throughout intermission.
Ushers must wait until the house lights are up before opening the theater doors.
Ushers must remain in the theater until all patrons have left, and it has been checked thoroughly for lost articles and programs. They may then meet with the House Manager in the lobby for sign out.
Do not consume alcohol during or prior to a scheduled shift. Anyone found to do so will be asked to leave the venue.
Our intention is to provide the best service possible to our patrons for the entirely of their stay in the building. Therefore, we ask that you do not leave the venue until authorized to do so.
Parking validation is available for CityStage events in the Columbus Center Garage only. As in the past, you will be given a ticket stub at the end of your shift, which will act as a validation.
Please contact the House Manager as soon as possible if you are unable to attend an event that you are scheduled for. You will need to be replaced, and this may take time.
At the end of a performance, please wait to open lobby doors until the house lights come up, even if patrons are already leaving.
